"This involves the ability of readers to make mental images of a text as a way to understand processes or events they encounter during reading. This ability can be an indication that a reader understands a text." (Texas Education Agency, 2002)
The student could then write about what they know and the teacher could assess the student. Or the student could use a think-aloud and the teacher could listen to see if the student understands and what they are picturing in their head and why.

This video talks about how visualization aids comprehension. It is sort-of based off scaffolding, it includes working with a group and individually. This video takes an approach of talking with other students and discussion what they are visualizing and thinking. In the video it talks about giving the students time to think by themselves, so they can really reflect on the book.

Example Two:In this video the teacher started off telling the class to picture a movie in the student's head as they were reading. That wasn't working for the class, so then the teacher started drawing out what she was visualizing. This was like scaffolding because the teacher was showing the students what she was visualizing to help the students understand visualizing. Then the students had to draw what the teacher drew. In this video the teacher was reading out loud. At the end of the video, the teacher had the students draw a picture all by themselves and had a student share.
